Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has denied Sen. Leila de Lima’s claim that the Duterte administration was putting the squeeze on convicted drug lord Jaybee Sebastian to force him to rat on the former Justice Secretary’s alleged drug ties.
“Iyung insinuation na iniiipit namin si Jaybee Sebastian, iyan ang kasinungalinan, wala sa katuwiran, We want him alive than dead,” said Aguirre in a press conference at the airport terminal Wednesday before his departure for Vietnam.
Aguirre said that Sebastian, who was described by de Lima as a “government asset”, was the key to the Department of Justice’s case against de Lima because allof its witnesses, specifically the high-profile inmates led by convicted drug lord Herbert Colanggo, accused Sebastian of extorting drug money from them to be used as campaign funds for de Lima’s run for the Senate.
“Who wants him dead?If he (Sebatsian) dies, who will beneift? It’s Senator de Lima because mawawalan ng kunek sa kanya na magtetestfy kaya takot na yun,” said Aguirre.
Sebastian is currently in critical condiction after a suffering knife wounds in a riot inside the National Bilibid Prison Wednesday morning or less than 24 hours after Aguirre reported that Sebastian was close to agreeing to testify against de Lima. [source]
