Duterte tags 1,000 gov’t officials in new drug list

SAN MIGUEL, Bulacan – President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday revealed that a thousand government officials are included on his new drug list.

"The final report is there, I’m about to make it public so nakiusap ako sa mga congressman kahapon, 'What will I do with this?' There are 1,000 barangay captains and police and mayors and governors and about—judges. Nandiyan na lahat," Duterte said before elite Army Scout Rangers in Camp Tecson here.
"Galing iyan sa mga raw tapos pinahasa ko sa mga Intelligence then sa NICA  [National Intelligence Coordinating Agency] tapos sa PDEA [Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency], NICA. Ganoon kakapal," he added before getting the list.

Duterte did not name the people on the list.

"Iyan ang problema natin, hindi ko na siguro—hindi ko na kaya ‘to, masisira ako. Ito iyong problema natin sa droga," he also said.

A day before the President's speech, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said Duterte talked about the new list during the Cabinet meeting in Malacañang on Wednesday.

"Kagabi ipinakita niya sa Cabinet meeting. Ang kapal [ng list] at sinasabi niya ay may policemen, politicians, etc," Aguirre said in a phone interview.

Last month, Duterte named more than a hundred government officials, judges and lawmen who allegedly have links to the illegal drug trade.

One of them is Talitay, Maguindanao Vice Mayor Abdulwahab Sabal, who is set to be charged in court with illegal possession of firearms and explosives after he was arrested, along with his wife and two others, at the Awang Airport on Sept. 8.

Sabal's wife, Mohanna, will also be indicted for possession of dangerous drugs.
