Imee Marcos asks Filipinos to forgive her dad: Tao lang nagkakamali

Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos has pleaded for forgiveness for her father, the late President Ferdinand Marcos, saying he was only human who made mistakes.
In a speech marking the 99th birth anniversary of the late strongman last Sunday (September 11), Marcos said forgiveness would not only give her dad peace but also help ease the anger of his critics after so many years.
“Laging may mga bumabatikos sa mga Marcos at walang humpay at tatlong dekada ang galit sa amin,” she said in a speech posted on her Facebook page.
Marcos was ousted in a bloodless EDSA People Power revolution in 1986 after 20 years of dictatorial rule. The former President died in exile in the US a few years later.
Recent government plans to bury Marcos at the heroes cemetery have been opposed by many groups due to his corruption and human rights abuses during his martial law regime. President Duterte has endorsed his burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani because he was a former president and a soldier.
