Senate President Koko Pimentel believes there is no need to protect President Rodrigo Duterte from the bombshells of self-confessed Davao Death Squad hit man Edgar Matobato simply because these are duds.
“As as a senator, as SP, ‘di ako interesado, ‘di siya konektado kahit anong topic sa Senado. Sa ganoong klaseng alegasyon, ni walang corroboration, walang testigo, walang dokumento, walang litrato, eh di na siguro kailangang proteksiyonan ang presidente dun,” said Pimentel in an interview with Nimfa Ravelo of DZBB.
Pimentel refused to comment on Matobato’s claims that Duterte formed the DDS which was responsible for over 1,000 killings in Davao City from 1988 to 2013.
“No comment na ako diyan, basta off topic siya, sa mata ko, as President of the Senate, inaalagaan nation ang oras, resources, direction, focus ng Senado,” said Pimentel.
Pimentel said he would meet Sen. Leila de Lima on Monday to get her explanation why she brought a witness who talked about the DDS killings in the last three decades when the issue was about the 3,000 alleged summary killings in the last three months.
“Kung salita lang, madaling magsalita, madaling gumawa ng kwento maraming imaginative sa ating bansa. Mag ingat ingat po tayo lahat, kaya nga pati Senate resources ingatan din, dapat justified lahat. Dapat may trail lahat. Umabot tayo sa topic na ito, so wag bigla bigla na lang, anong topic na ito,” said Pimentel who felt Matobato’s insertion in the witness stand was unfair to other resource person who prepared for the committee’s main topic.
Pimentel said neither De Lima nor Matobato has established who was behind the DDS killings so neither could conclude any parallelism between the DDS and the alleged extrajudicial killings at present.
“Kung yan ang plano niña (de Lima), parang inaamin niya na talagang independent topic ito. Payuhan ko na lang si Senator de Lima mag file ng separate resolution at hintayin ang proper action ng Senado tungkol sa new resolution kasi di ko rin naman masasabi na committee on justice babagsak, kasi depende yan sa pagkasulat ng resolution,” said Pimentel.
