President Rodrigo Duterte has revealed that former President Fidel Ramos was his source for the names of the government personalities allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.
In a speech delivered before the Filipino community in Laos Monday night (Sept. 5), Duterte said Ramos visited him four times in Davao City to convince him to run for president.
During their first meeting, the President said Ramos showed him nothing except tell him that it’s time that he should run so that Mindanao will have its own president.
“The second time, he was strongly urging me to run. Sabi niya, ‘ikaw lang ang makapigil nito kung papano.’ Then he showed me a list ng mga— nandoon na, mga generals— sa droga. Pati pulis, gano’n kakapal, hindi ko pa binitawan ‘yung iba kasi vina-validate ko pa,” he said.
Although Duterte was hesitant to run due to lack of funds, he said Ramos was insistent.
“Sabi niya (Ramos): No. If you keep on refusing, this country will go to the dogs.” Pinakita niya, what can you do with this? Sabi ko, nakita ko mga generals, gano’n. Hindi naman akin ‘yun. Pati yung kay De Leila, hindi yun akin,” the President said.
Duterte let out a bombshell days after taking office when he disclosed that five active and retired police generals supposedly have links to the illegal drug trade.
His announcement was followed by a revelation several weeks later that certain politikos, judges and police officials were allegedly involved in illegal drugs. source
