President Rodrigo Duterte feels no affinity with Moros who join bandit groups such as the Abu Sayyaf or sympathize with the terrorist organization Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) even if he’s a Moro himself.
In his speech before the Filipino community in Vietnam Wednesday night (Sept. 28), Duterte described the young Moro sympathizers of ISIS as a “problem” because they support “a very terrible group” who have no qualms beheading people in public.
Amid reported incidents of beheadings by the Abu Sayyaf group and ISIS sympathizers in Jolo, the President said: “If you are a Moro, do not be offended kasi pareho tayong Moro. But it doesn’t mean to say that I will go for this kind of sh**.”
“You kill people for money and there is no payment forthcoming, you just kill them like chickens and goats. Mahirap iyan,” he added.
Duterte reiterated his resolve not to start peace talks with the Abu Sayyaf within his term, saying he’d rather fight “as a matter of principle.” [source]
